7 days through grief

Grief cannot be shortened. But it can be accompanied. Seven days, seven people who carried the same weight – and who found solid ground again on the other side. Take a few quiet minutes each day. That is all it takes.

The path in seven days

At the beginning it is not about understanding, but about enduring.

No one ever told me that grief felt so like fear.

C. S. Lewis1898–1963

The historical background

After his wife Joy died in 1960, Lewis wrote his notes in whatever empty notebooks he found around the house, with no intention of publishing them. In them the famously confident author describes doubt, emptiness and the physical restlessness of the first weeks.

The way into the light

He kept writing, and those notebooks became "A Grief Observed" – still the book most often pressed into the hands of the newly bereaved. His unvarnished pain became comfort for strangers.

Your question for today

What are you actually feeling right now – beyond what you think you should feel?
